No. 37 - Lucas Cooper

5-foot-10, 180-pounds

Defensive Back

Redshirt Sophomore

Palos Verdes, Calif.

Palos Verdes H.S.

Cooper joined the Colorado football team as a recruited walk on in 2015. After redshirting as a true freshman, he played in six games this past season and recorded two tackles. He was named the defensive scout player of the year last season.

No. 36 - Akil Jones

6-foot, 215-pounds

Inside Linebacker

Redshirt Freshman

San Jose, Calif.

Valley Christian H.S.

Jones redshirted his freshman year at Colorado and will be in the rotation at inside linebacker behind Rick Gamboa and Drew Lewis this season. Jones was rated as a three-star recruit in the class of 2016 and chose the Buffs over offers from Oregon State, San Diego State, and others.

No. 35 - Beau Bisharat

6-foot-2, 215-pounds

Running Back

Sophomore

Sacramento, Calif.

Jesuit H.S.

Bisharat was a highly coveted recruit in the class of 2016 that chose the Buffaloes over Stanford and the majority of the Pac-12. Not only did he crack the running back rotation, Bisharat was unselfish in playing on special teams units. Phillip Lindsay is the clear starting running back this season, and Bisharat is battling for the No. 2 spot with Michael Adkins.

No. 34 - Chase Sanders

6-foot, 180-pounds

Safety

Redshirt Freshman

Jupiter, Fla.

Jupiter H.S.

A majority of walk ons come from in-state, but Sanders trekked from Florida to walk on at Colorado. Sanders redshirted as a freshman and is a reserve as a boundary safety for the Buffs.

No. 32 - Rick Gamboa

6-foot, 240-pounds

Inside Linebacker

Redshirt Junior

Sylmar, Calif.

Chaminade College Prep

Gamboa is a captain for the Buffs and has been a staple on defense at linebacker for the past two seasons. Gamboa started 11 games in 2015 and recorded a team-high 96 tackles, which is a school record for a redshirt freshman. Last season, Gamboa was third on the team in tackles with 79 and had an interception returned for a touchdown against Oregon State.
