BOULDER-- Last season Colorado's offense started out hot right out the gate in their first four games but they slowly started to be less productive throughout the rest of the season. Senior quarterback Sefo Liufau dealt with injuries that may have halted his performances the last few games for the Buffs but luckily for Colorado, they have an elite quarterback behind Liufau that is ready to step up and that is our number one guy for the week, Sophomore Steven Montez.

No. 1 Steven Montez
At 6'5'' 225 lbs, Montez is primed to be the Buffs starting quarterback this season. Last year he played in 10 games, including three starts and leading the Buffs to season-changing win over Oregon. He threw for 1,017 yards with nine touchdowns against four interceptions and completed 60.3 percent of his passes, he also became the first quarterback in Colorado history to run for over 100 yards and throw for over 300 yards in a single game (Oregon). Montez will be the leader at the quarterback position heading into spring ball next year which is something he is all too familiar with. Last spring Montez was the main guy because Liufau was hurt and didn't participate in spring practices so Montez understands what it is like to be the guy who takes most of the reps. Montez can be characterized a gunslinger, he has a great powerful arm, he just needs to work on his accuracy down the field a little bit better especially with guys like Shay Fields and Juwann Winfree that will burn defensive backs deep. Although Montez has had experience behind center this season will be different because he will be looked at as the main guy from the beginning of the season and not just the guy who comes in because of injury. I think this is going to help Montez with his confidence and that will show on the field. Montez recently posted a picture on twitter of his body and how much stronger he has gotten which is going to play to his advantage this year as we all know the coaches like to run the quarterback. With Colorado only losing one offensive starter, this offense is going to be fun to watch next season especially with Montez behind center calling the plays.
