CUSportsNation.com's Staff: 5 Offensive Question Marks Going Into The Spring Game
1. Is RS-Freshman Steven Montez ready to take over at quarterback? Will RS Freshman Sam Noyer or True Freshman Tyler Lytle battle for the starting position? Maybe the best question related to the Colorado Quarterback position is who will be the No. 2 Quarterback?
2. Phillip Lindsay at running back, then who? Lindsay ran for over 1,000-yards last year as a junior scoring a total of 17 touchdowns, after Lindsay you have Donovan Lee, Michael Adkins II, and Kyle Evans, the former walk-on turned scholarship player in 2016 who ran for 346-yards. You also have Sophomore Beau Bisharat and True Freshman Alex Fontenot who is incoming. Lindsay is a prime time back, but after him, who is going to step up?
3. Will Colorado get the football to their tight ends this coming season? Last year, the Buffs tight end corps had a total of three receptions.
4. With so much talent at the receiver position, who is going to see the most playing time? Colorado returns Devin Ross who caught for 765-yards, Shay Fields who caught for 845-yards, and Bryce Bobo who caught for 523-yards. Juwann Winfree who missed last season with an ACL tear is back at 100%, Kabion Ento will be a senior, Jay MacIntyre caught for 390-yards from the slot last year, Lance Walker returns and will be a junior. The Buffs have plenty of incoming talent to that will be fighting for the time on the field: Second-year players like Johnny Huntley and Derrion Rakestraw and incoming freshmen KD Nixon, Maurice Bell, Laviska Shenault, and Jaylon Jackson. This is a loaded group and as you know you can only out so many on the field at once, who's going to earn time?
5. The Buffs return good experience at the offensive line position, most notably is Senior Jeromy Irwin who played in 896 snaps last with 20 knockdowns. The Buffs have 7 offensive linemen that will be True Freshman and you have to think that at least two get onto the field for Colorado in 2016? The question is, which Freshmen are capable of contributing this early in their career? Will it Early Enrollee Jake Moretti, the Rivals.com 4-Star and former Ohio State Commit, if you've watched his film, it's quite impressive. Moretti is coming off an ACL injury which sidelined him during his senior season. 6-foot-5, 285 pound Grant Polley out of Denton, Texas is another offensive lineman that could see early time, but he does not get to Boulder until August 4th. Among the 7 incoming offensive linemen, two were gray-shirts last year. Chance Lytle is 6-foot-6, 290 pounds and Colby Pursell is 6-foot-4, 290 pounds. Colorado has room for freshmen to get onto the field in the trenches, who is it going to be?
