Why did Dimitri Stanley choose Colorado over Washington?

Greenwood Village (Colo.) Cherry Creek athlete Dimitri Stanley made a verbal commitment to Colorado over the likes of Nebraska, Utah, and Arizona State in July, and he was solid with the Buffaloes until Washington offered in November.

The Huskies gave Stanley something to think about, and he took an official visit to UW the weekend before National Signing Day.

However, Stanley ended up sticking with Colorado and signed with the Buffaloes on December 20.

"We made [the decision to sign with Colorado] right after the Washington trip, to be honest," Stanley said. "We made sure we sat back and assessed the situation before we decided to hop in with one school. We compared the two schools and ended up going with Colorado."

One aspect of Stanley's decision to sign with Colorado was the friendship he built with the other 2018 Colorado recruits. During the first weekend of December, he officially visited Colorado with several other Buffs' commits.

"I connected with the commits and built a friendship with those guys," Stanley explained. "It was cool to interact with those guys in person. I thought that I could be around those guys for four years. It was a pretty cool experience."

When the Colorado coaching staff learned that Stanley was visiting Washington and considering the Huskies, they didn't overreact. They stayed steady with Stanley.

"They just kept the same pace going," said Stanley. "It really didn't change too much. I was talking with the coaches constantly, on a day-to-day basis. They just stuck with it. The process never really changed with CU."

The 6-foot, 175-pound three-star recruit took the visit to UW in part to see the city of Seattle.

"I wanted to visit a new place, but I definitely wanted to see if I could spend the next four years there," admitted Stanley.

Now that Stanley's recruitment is over, his main focus is getting ready for enrolling at CU in the summer.

"I'm going to make sure I'm prepared to get the next season rolling," he said.

Stanley caught 81 passes for 1,192 yards and 20 touchdowns during his senior season at Cherry Creek.
