When Trey Udoffia departed for his unofficial visit to Colorado this weekend, the Loomis (Calif.) Del Oro athlete was hoping to fall in love. And that is exactly what happened.

"I was talking to the coaches at Colorado a lot and all of them are great. I have a great relationship with them. So when I was flying out there, I was thinking, 'Maybe I'll commit there. I don't know, it depends on how much I like it,'" Udoffia said. "And when I got there, I was just blown away.
"Everything about Colorado was great. They opened up their brand new facilities, that was the craziest thing I have ever seen. And when I got my campus tour, I just knew it was the place, like there would be no other place for me."

That is when the commitment took place.
"[When] I told him that I wanted to commit there, [Coach MacIntyre] got really excited and we were shaking hands and taking pictures," Udoffia said. "And then we went outside and all the other coaches were sitting there waiting. I told them and everyone was going crazy and it was a lot of fun.
"It feels really good. I loved everything about Colorado, I just felt perfectly about it. And now I feel like a ton of pressure just got taken off my shoulders for my senior year. Now I can really just focus on winning a state championship my senior year for Del Oro. And it helps me focus on school a lot more, too, just knowing that I don't have to keep messaging with all the other coaches."
The Buffaloes are recruiting Udoffia primarily for defense, but he also accounted for more than 1,000 all-purpose yards as a junior and could potentially factor in at receiver as well.
"Today in his office, Coach MacIntyre said they offered me as a cornerback, they like me there. But if I am better as a receiver, he would play me offensively," Udoffia said. "Whichever side of the ball I could produce for them, I will play."
"I don't really care what position I play in college but personally I think I am built more for cornerback just because, while I am not short, I am not super tall either," he previously told BuffStampede.com. "I am glad I have background as a receiver, though, because I feel that really helps me as a defensive back."
Udoffia considers his ability to read a receiver's route to be his best attribute as a defensive back.
"When they try to do a hard step one way, it triggers me to realize they are going to try to cut back the other way. I know the routes they are running," he said. "My catch up speed is also a lot better than the average high school player."
Udoffia earned his offer from Colorado in early June after he shined at the Buffaloes' satellite camp at Contra Costa College. He picked the Buffs over other offers from Washington State, Eastern Washington, Idaho, Sacramento State, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV, Utah State and Wyoming.
Running backs and tight ends coach Klayton Adams is responsible for recruiting the Sacramento area, where Udoffia resides. One of Adams' position players also lended a helping hand on Saturday.
"I met some of the other recruits but was hanging out with my parents, just checking everything out. I did hang out with some of the running backs, including Phillip Lindsay," Udoffia said. "Phillip told me they need players with my mindset. I am not going to bow down to anyone. I don't care if you're the No. 1 recruit."
