Three Things We Learned

1. Colorado’s now ranked No. 15 in both the College Football Playoff Rankings, No. 15 in the Coaches Poll, and No. 16 in the AP Top 25

Before being nationally ranked this year, the last time Colorado was ranked was during the 2005 season. Last week in the first release of the College Football Playoff Rankings the Buffs were ranked 15th. Talk about going 0-60 in a blink of an eye. Last year Colorado won just 4 games and ended the year losing their last 8 out of 9 games.

Being ranked this high in the College Football Playoff Rankings as well as the coaches poll is really incredible and when we look at where Colorado has been ranked historically in the AP Top 25, sitting at No. 16 is the highest they’ve been since the 2002 season when they were ranked 3rd under Head Coach Gary Barnett.

2. The Buffs’ offense has now scored just two touchdowns in their last two games

Before the Buffs played Stanford on October 22nd, 2016 Colorado’s was averaging 39.0 points per game. In their last two games against Stanford and againstUCLAthe Buffs have scored just 30 points, a two-game average of 15 points per game. Now either Stanford’s defense cracked the code on how to keep the Buffs off the scoreboard, Colorado has just played two good teams, or the offense has become stagnant late in the year.

For one, Stanford held the football time of possession wise nearly 34 minutes of the game, the Buffs also missed 3 out of 4 field goals. Against UCLA, Colorado had scored just 10 points entering the 4th quarter going up against what was a very talented defensive front that caused havoc on Quarterback Sefo Liufau all night long. UCLA’s secondary also shut down Colorado’s receivers all game long.

Shay Fields, Devin Ross, and Bryce Bobo combined for just 8 receptions for 70 yards and zero touchdowns. Going into their next three games it’s vital Colorado can sustain drives and put the football into the end zone rather than having to rely on their shaky field goal unit or forcing their defense to make stop after stop. The offense has to do their part if this group really wants to make a run at the PAC 12 Title. Playmakers have to rise and Colorado has to find away to be less vanilla inside the red-zone.

3. College Football News has Colorado playing in the Rose Bowl at the end of the season against Wisconsin

Really? The Rose Bowl? “The Granddaddy of Them All!” That is where this season could be headed. That is why if you’re a Colorado Football Fan or connected to the program in any shape or form, you need to be attending these home games to support this program and how far they have come.

Message Boards: Colorado vs. Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl

Colorado Football is back and the last time they won 8 games was 12 seasons ago in 2004 when the Buffs went 8-5 beating UTEP 33-28 in the Houston Bowl. We get it, you might not be able to get to Tucson this Saturday Night to see them play Arizona, but it’s about time Colorado fans sell out Folsom Field. On November 19th they host No. 25 Washington State and on November 26th Colorado hosts No. 16 Utah. Don’t miss these games, don’t miss being a part of something great.

Two Questions

1. What areas can Colorado improve on going forward?

Colorado might have the best defense west of the Mississippi, they are just that good on all fronts. Where they need to improve is getting their offense going again. As we mentioned above, the Offense has scored just two touchdowns in their last two games and if Colorado wants to beat Washington State and Utah in the next few weeks, the offense is going to have to score at least 30 a game or more to beat teams of that caliber.

Quarterback Sefo Liufau threw two interceptions last game and a lot of his passes just seemed inaccurate, but it’s not the time to yank him from the starting position, his leadership and poise are invaluable at this time of the year.

Message Boards: Colorado's offense has scored just 2 touchdowns in their last 2 games

The Offensive Line got beat up last week by UCLA and the week before against Stanford when they allowed 5 quarterback sacks. Not sure if the Buffs will see another Defensive Line unit as good as UCLA’s all season long. Also, keep getting Colorado Running Back Phillip Lindsay touches, against UCLA he ran the football 24 times for 73-yards and caught 11 passes for 76-yards, those are good stats.

Special teams was responsible for Colorado beating UCLA last weekend believe it or not. Kicker Chris Graham hit two late field goals and punt returner Isaiah Oliver returned a 68-yard punt for a touchdown. Freshman Kicker Davis Price should be back this weekend, which is a huge boost for the kicking game.

2. Post-Season Honors for Colorado Running Back Phillip Lindsay?

Currently, through 8 games, Phillip Lindsay is ranked 3rd in most yards rushed for in the PAC 12 behind Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey and Washington’s Myles Gaskin. McCaffrey has 980-yards of 175 attempts, Gaskin has 952-yards of 151-attempts, Lindsay has 818-yards of 143-attempts and is second in the entire PAC 12 Conference in rushing touchdowns with 10 behind Arizona State’s Kalen Ballage who has 12.

Lindsay has also proven to be a very dependable receiver out of the backfield for the Buffs hauling in 33 receptions for 303-yards which is a 9.2 average. In Conference, Play Lindsay has really shined rushing for 642-yards and 6 touchdowns, in his last three games he has rushed for 423-yards and scored 4 touchdowns.

One Prediction

1. The outcome of the Arizona game will dictate Colorado’s remaining season

Yes, this game will tell us that much. IF Colorado comes out flat and has to pull away late from Arizona or worst case is upset in Tucson, it could be a bad ending for a remarkable start.

Washington State and Utah are going to be very challenging games to win to say the least. On the flip side if Colorado comes out guns blazing and lays the hammer down against Arizona as they should, expect Colorado to regain some late season momentum and bring some fire back to Folsom for their last two home games. Colorado is 13-5 all-time against Arizona and opened as a 14 point favorite.
