Tchangam on why he chose Colorado

Cupertino (Calif.) De Anza C.C. outside linebacker Alex Tchangam picked Colorado over offers from Kansas and others on Friday. The 6-foot-3, 255-pound three-star recruit spoke with CUSportsNation.com about his Buffs' pledge.

"It was a family decision," Tchangam explained. "I talked to my parents over and over, trying to figure out what was the best place for me, and Colorado is the best place for me. I told the Colorado coaching staff [Friday morning], and they were extremely, extremely excited and ready to start working with them."

Tchangam will sign with Colorado on Wednesday but has to wait until the summer to enroll at CU.

"I wish I could leave JuCo right now and go to Colorado," Tchangam admitted.

Tchangam was actually born in the country of Cameroon in Central Africa and his family moved to Georgia when he was around 10-11 years old.

He didn't start playing football until 2016 and was listed on De Anza's roster as a wide receiver.

"I started playing organized football last season, my first year at De Anza," Tchangam said. "I've only played football for a year and a half.

"In high school, I always wanted to play football because I had the size and all of that, but I never got the chance because of my grades. But I got the chance at my junior college."

Tchangam's story about having very little football experience and coming from another country is similar to Chris Mulumba's, who signed with CU in 2017. Mulumba was Tchangam's player host when he officially visited CU a couple weekends ago.
