MacIntyre seeing improvement from Edwards
On Saturday, Brian Howell of Buffzone.com reported that Javier Edwards has dropped from 360 pounds (his 2017 fall weight) to his current weight of 339 pounds. Edwards hopes to lose another 15 pounds by the start of the season.
Colorado head coach Mike MacIntyre likes that his big, interior defensive tackle shedding all of this weight.
"There's no negatives, and he's going to keep losing [weight]," MacIntyre said. "He's fresher for more plays and able to stay aggressive for more plays in a row, which is good. I'm excited where he's headed and hopefully he'll keep going in that direction, and I think he will."
Colorado's run defense finished near last in the Pac-12 in 2017, and for the Buffs to improve, Edwards clogging up the middle will be key.
"When you get tired, it's hard to stay pad level," MacIntyre continued. "The fresher you are, the better pad level. [Edwards] can bend and move, so he just keeps getting in better shape and is pushing himself. He's a lot better [now] than he was this time last year, which I'm excited about seeing."
