MacIntyre on fake field goal: 'I'd do it again'

Down 14-10 near the end of the first half, Colorado lined up for a field goal attempt, but opted for a fake field goal pass rather than settling for the short attempt for James Stefanou, who has been terrific this season.

Quarterback T.J. Patterson, the Buffs' holder, caught the snap and threw to Stefanou on the left side of the field, and the ball was dropped. If Stefanou had caught it, he would have been stopped short unless he was going to channel his inner Marshawn Lynch "Beast Mode."

Colorado head coach Mike MacIntyre spoke about the play that proved to be costly as the Buffs obviously could have used the extra points as they made their gameplan to come from behind against UCLA. Colorado lost 27-23 in the Pac-12 tilt.

"Yes, I’d do it again," MacIntyre said. "100 times if I had 100 more chances. Everything we saw was set up the right way, just didn’t work out. We had that plan, and we knew we were going to have to score more points to beat these guys.

"Thought that would be a good way to do that. I would do it 100 times after watching those 4 hours of film."

Colorado has now dropped consecutive games after starting the season 3-0 in non-conference play. The Buffs will take their 3-2 record back to Folsom field this upcoming Saturday to host Arizona, a 2-2 team that is coming off of a bye week.

"They know we're getting better," MacIntyre said when asked about the team's morale. "We’ll start clicking off some wins here. You know we played the best team in the Pac-12, got beat at home, played them hard. And then we played a really talented football team with probably one of the best quarterbacks in America. Just keep fixing it and we will."

"The only way to go is up," added quarterback Steven Montez. "That’s the only way to go is up. So we’ll try and go back on Monday and go back to the drawing board and get prepared for a good U of A team. They’re coming to Folsom (Field), so we’ll have to make it pretty tough in Folsom to get a win, so hopefully we’ll get it done."

The 27-23 back-and-forth contest was a perfect example of "Pac-12 after dark" as the Buffs and Bruins combined for 901 yards of total offense, lots of big plays in the opposition's backfield, and only one turnover.

"That was one heck of a football game, hats off to UCLA," said MacIntyre. "That was a great college football game. I was really proud of the way our guys fought and the way we played."
