April 9 was a big day for Riverside City College (Calif.) inside linebacker Jashua Allen as he landed his first scholarship offer, coming from Utah.

"My coaches told me a lot about how Utah was looking at me," Allen said. "I hit them up, and they told me they were going to be my first offer. It was shocking, very surprising. It was a good talk, and it was life changing. It really opened my eyes and gave me good motivation."

Allen has been receiving more interest from colleges since he received the offer from the Utes. Colorado offered Allen, who has three years to play two at the next level, about a week after Utah did.

He was offered by CU offensive coordinator Darrin Chiaverini, who actually coached at Riverside five years ago.

"[Chiaverini] talked to my defensive coordinator. It was all unexpected. I was just happy for it," Allen said. "I've reached out to coach Chev on Twitter. He's a pretty cool guy."

Allen played running back in high school and was set on playing that position in college. At the start of his true freshman season in 2017, Allen strictly played running back but barely saw the field.

Allen made the smart choice to be open to playing other positions in the middle of the season, and his defensive coordinator at Riverside had him try out linebacker. It obviously paid off, as Allen is now getting scholarship offers from Pac-12 schools to play inside backer.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder hopes to graduate this December with his AA. Allen plans to visit some schools this spring.
