BOULDER— Colorado traveled to California this weekend to take on Stanford and Cal. The Buffaloes have dropped 10 straight Pac-12 road games. The Buffs would snap that streak tonight and pull out a win at Stanford, 81-74.
1st Half Recap
Colorado took the early lead against Stanford, as they were up 4-1 but soon after Wesley Gordon picked up his second foul and headed to the bench with 18 minutes still left in the first half. For most of the first half, the post play was left up to Tory Miller and Lucas Siewert. They would end the first half with six points for Miller and three for Siewert. Miller would also lead the team at the half with five rebounds.
Xavier Johnson got off to a nice start for the Buffaloes, at the first media timeout Johnson had two points, three rebounds, an assist and he took a charge. Johnson would finish the half with eight points and four rebounds. Derrick White would lead the team in the first half with 11 points, he would also have two rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal.
During the start of the first half, each team would take the lead and then it would be tied again. That’s the whole first half would go until under seven minutes to play when Colorado would take the biggest lead of the game at 11 points after they went on a 10-0 run. Colorado would keep a double-digit lead heading into halftime.
Eight minutes into the game Colorado was shooting 70% from the floor but at the same time, Stanford was 3-of-3 from three-point range. The Cardinal were causing the Buffaloes to turn the ball over a lot in the first half they had seven turnovers, 10 minutes into the game. Stanford had 11 points off Colorado’s 12 total turnovers in the first half. To finish the half Colorado would be 15-of-26 (57.7%) from the floor, 4-of-12 (33.3%) from three and 7-of-9 from the line.
2nd Half Recap
The second half for Colorado started out with a deep three-pointer from Dom Collier. Collier would eventually finish the night with six points. That three would keep the Buffs double-digit lead until Colorado started to the turn the ball over and Stanford was taking advantage of that. At the under 16-minute media timeout, the Cardinal would cut the lead to seven.
Colorado would eventually start shooting a little bit better after Stanford cut the lead, after a White steal he would throw the ball ahead to Johnson and he would slam it down for a one-handed dunk. This would bring the Buffaloes lead back to 11 but that slowly fade as Colorado would miss shots and give easy shots to the Cardinal. Stanford would cut the lead to four with under 12 minutes to play.
Bryce Peters would come in the game and give the Buffs some energy by hitting his second three-pointer of the night and then White would follow up with a three of his own to bring the lead back to double digits. Peters would hit another three in the second half and would end the night with 13 points.
Each team would enter the bonus with under 10 to play, Colorado would end the night 20-of-28 from the line while Stanford was 14-of-24. The Buffaloes would undoubtedly out-rebound Stanford 38 and 29 and would finish the night 26-of-49 (53.1) from the floor, 9-of-22 (40.9%) from beyond the arc.
