In the past few years, Colorado has been getting their quarterback commits very early in the recruiting process, and that trend is continuing in the class of 2019 with Monument (Colo.) Palmer Ridge gunslinger Ty Evans choosing the Buffs earlier this week.
Evans explained why he picked Colorado over the likes of Kansas State, Northwestern, N.C. State and others with CUSportsNation.com.
"Honestly, I got to a point in my recruitment where my dad said that I haven't been that excited about recruiting. He said, 'When a coach follows you, it's not that big of a deal.' I agreed with them, and it was because I knew where I wanted to go, and it was CU," said Evans.
"I was going to wait until this summer or later this spring because who knows what can happen. My dad asked me, 'Who are you waiting for? What school is out there that would change you from leaning towards CU?' I really thought about it for a couple of weeks, and there were really no schools that I could think of that would really get me off from CU. That's when I knew it was meant to be."
Colorado offered Evans this past summer, and Evans was building a relationship with then-offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren. Even with Lindgren off to Oregon State, Evans didn't flinch.

Two big reasons for that were his relationship with his future offensive coordinator Darrin Chiaverini and the pre-existing connection Evans had with Kurt Roper, who is CU's new quarterbacks coach.
"They came at me pretty hard. Coach Chiaverini was out our playoff games and he was there with coach Lindgren at my state game, "explained Evans. "With coach Lindgren leaving for Oregon State, that's when I kind of paused because I couldn't commit to a school without a QB coach and not knowing who it's going to be.
"Then they brought in coach Roper, and he was the guy that offered me at South Carolina. He recruited me hard when he was there. We talked about what he wants in a QB, and I seem to fit that perfectly. It was just constant communication, and it seemed like they were as interested in me as I was in them."
It wasn't exactly a clear path that led Evans to Colorado. He had the detour of a commitment to Arkansas, which ended shortly after their coaching change. But now, Evans being a Buff is like a dream come true.
"Definitely. Every year, I would walk onto Folsom and say, 'Dad, I want to play here.' It was definitely my dream school growing up," said Evans. "Not everyone has the opportunity to play for their dream school, and I'm blessed and amazing about it."
What's next for Evans now that he has committed?
"I definitely want to recruit for my class and try to make 2019 one of the best class CU has ever gotten. On a personal note, I'm trying to get ready for the Elite 11, rivals camp, and those kind of events. I'm looking forward to next season at Palmer Ridge and be the best quarterback I can be for them and win another state championship."
