CUSportsNation.com was live at Colorado's 7th practice, which was the much anticipated open practice to the public. Read Brian Austin's notes below!
Nuggets from Practice
- Steven Montez led the way at QB. He looked pretty good on the day. Sam Noyer was with the 2's the most, but Tyler Lytle did get in some it looked like. Lots of shuffling of players so was hard to tell which group was out there sometimes. There were a few TD passes. Overall the group looked pretty good, but there wasn't a ton of 11-on-11 to really evaluate.
- Reps were split pretty even between Kyle Evans, Donovan Lee, Beau Bisharat and Alex Fontenot at running back. Fontenot had some good runs during the inside run drills, but there was no tackling so hard to say how it would have played out if there was. We didn't have the best vantage point for evaluating if a tackle would have been made during that period.
- The wide receiver group looks really good. Jay MacIntyre was limited today and Laviska Shenault, K.D. Nixon and Juwann Winfree took most of the reps with the ones. Maurice Bell, Tony Brown and Erik Lawson were primarily working with the 2's. Curtis Chiaverini got in with the 2's some as well. Brown, Bell and Shenault had touchdown receptions. Sam Noyer and Steven Montez had the TD passes.
-Tight end only had four players practicing. Chris Bounds was leading the way. Brady Russell and Darrion Jones seemed to split time with the twos. Bounds nearly had a very good catch in 11-on-11, but couldn't quit haul it in. There was a fair amount of no TE sets today. When they were in they were flexed out quite a bit. Jones looks the part, but based of how coach Bernardi was getting after him it seems like he has some work to do before he'll see the field much.
- Along the offensive line the ones were mostly Josh Kaiser-RT, Dillon Middlemiss-RG, Colby Pursell-C, Brett Tonz-LG, Aaron Haigler-LT. Will Sherman got some work at RG with the ones as well. The twos were mostly Hunter Vaughn-RT, Sherman-RG, Justin Eggers-C, Chance Lytle-LG, Jack Shuttack-LT.
