For the first time of the entire season, Colorado trailed an opponent in the first quarter. Oregon State’s Garrett Owens hit a 32-yard field goal to put the Beavers up 3-0 with 8:15 in the first quarter.

Then, Colorado did what they do best: Score points in the 1st quarter. RS-Freshman Steven Montez who was named the PAC 12 Offensive Player of the Week against Oregon threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Shay Fields, after a blocked PAT, Colorado led 6-3 with 6:09 in the 1st.

Just 5 minutes later, Montez would throw to a wide open Fields for another touchdown, this time for a 33-yard score to make it 13-3 as the quarter ended. This season in the 1st quarter Colorado has outscored opponents 85-17.

In the second quarter, the Buffs would keep the throttle down as Montez would hit Fields for a short pass, Fields would then run down the field 63-yards for his third receiving touchdown of the game. Fields is the first Colorado receiver to haul in three touchdown receptions since Nelson Spruce did it in 2014.

After Oregon State kicked a 40-yard field goal to make it 20-6, Colorado drove down the field 66-yards in 11 plays with Phillip Lindsay scoring from 1-yard out to make it 27-6 with 4:45 before half.

After the Colorado defense forced a punt, the Buffs would put together a 9-play drive that went 44-yards before Freshman Davis Price hit a 54-yard field goal to make it 30-6 Colorado, on the next series just before half linebacker Rick Gamboa intercepted a Conor Blount pass and returned it 20-yards for a touchdown to put Colorado up 37-6 at the half.

At the half Colorado had out-gained Oregon State in total offensive yards: 363-144 and Colorado Quarterback Steven Montez was 12 of 18 for 252-yards and 3 touchdown passes.

The Buffs would take a 40-6 lead after a 22-yard Davis Price field goal with 4:38 in the 3rd quarter. A Michael Adkins II 1-yard touchdown run late in the 4th quarter gave Colorado a 47-6 lead.

This is Colorado's best-ever start under 4th Year Head Coach Mike MacIntyre sitting at 4-1 after back to back PAC 12 Conference victories. Colorado will travel to Los Angeles, California next weekend to take on USC.

MacIntyre after the game

"First of I want to say, what a gorgeous day in Boulder, I don't think you can paint a picture, a beautiful day for a Saturday afternoon game than that. I was really proud of our guys, I knew Gary's team would come out tough and hard, he's a really good football coach, hardnosed, tough guy and I really admire him a lot as a person too but I was pleased with the way our guys fought and battled, how about our defense not giving up a touchdown that's pretty amazing, offense played really well, Shay Fields made some big plays today so I was excited about what they did."

"We just got to keep playing games, every team we left can beat us and we can beat every team left, we just have to come and play Colorado football, that's what I tell them all the time, play Colorado football, play Colorado football, that just means take care of yourself and then you go out there and play and see what happens."

"The PAC 12 conference is what these young men wanted to play in, the PAC 12 conference is what our coaches, the level they wanted to coach at and we want to play the best, we want to be able to beat the best, so they'll be ready to play, I guarantee. They've tasted it now and it taste sweet and I know they want to keep tasting it, so they'll keep moving in the right direction. What they've been through has fortified them as a group of men, it's also given them an unbelievable depth and character as far as understanding never say die and never give up."
