1st Half Recap

Colorado and Stanford both got off to good starts in tonight's game, the game was back and forth the whole first half but the Buffs would lead for the first five minutes of the first half and were shooting 50% from the floor. Shortly after that Stanford would go on a 4-0 run but Lucas Siewert would end that by hitting a three-pointer and bringing the Buffs within one.

As a team Colorado hit six three-pointers at one point towards the end of the first half, they hit back-to-back-to-back three pointers to take a seven-point lead. Although their offense was productive, their defense was still lacking, Colorado had a hard time executing their zone defense.

George King lead the team at halftime with eight points, while Derrick White and Siewert each had seven points. Colorado did a great job in the first half by limiting Stanford’s leading scorer Reid Travis to only five points and kept the Cardinal as a team to only three, three-pointers.

At the half Colorado would lead 41-35, they were shooting 16-30 (53.3%) from the floor, 6-12 (50.0%) from beyond the arc and 3-6 (50.0%) from the free throw line. Colorado only had four first-half turnovers, the last time they played Stanford they had 23 total turnovers.

2nd Half Recap

Colorado came out firing on all cylinders in the second half, going on a 9-2 run with Xavier Johnson and Wesley Gordon scoring all nine points that would put the Buffs up by 13 three minutes into the game. Right after Stanford took a timeout, Colorado would then go on another run, this time 7-0 and the Buffs would be up 17 with 16 minutes to play in the game.

The Buffs also had a great ball movement one offense in the second half, finding open looks beyond the arc and also they started to play inside-and-out which is what Coach Boyle has been wanting from his team all season. This helped Colorado get to that double-digit lead in the second half and the Cardinal were never able to catch up throughout the whole second half.

Freshman Deleon Brown and Siewert had great games for the Buffs. After struggling the past few Pac-12 games, Brown hit two three-pointers and also had two nice layups that gave him 10 points on the night. Siewert hit a career-high four (4-6) three-pointers. Colorado also had six players in double digits on the night (Gordon 10, Johnson 15, King 15, Brown 10, Miller 10, Siewert 15).

To finish the game Colorado was 35-62 (56.5%) from the floor, 11-23 (47.8%) from three-point range, 10-17 (58.8%) and from the line. The out-rebounded Stanford 36-34 and only committed six turnovers only two in the whole second half.
