Byrd talks Colorado offer, recruitment

Taking the job at Colorado was outside of Mel Tucker's normal footprint as his first west coast job.

During his first six weeks in Boulder, he's gone back to his roots on the recruiting front, as he's looked at a handful of prospects from the Southeast.

Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern cornerback Erwin Byrd is one of them, and the 6-foot, 175-pound 2019 prospect added an offer from the Buffaloes late last week.

"My recruiting coach called me and said he had some good news," Byrd said. "He brought me in the room and told me to call a number. When I called it was Coach Tillman from Colorado. He told me he liked my film, and that I had an offer from them."

The Colorado offer was big for Byrd, to say the least. The Buffaloes became Byrd's first Power Five conference offer.

"When he told me I had an offer, I was very excited about the opportunity I had been given," stated Byrd.

Byrd has a tentative date set to go see CU Boulder as well.

"I plan to take an official visit on February 1st," he said. "Very excited to get on campus and see what's in store for me."

Byrd doesn't know too much about the Buffs at the moment but did watch some of their games last season.

"I could definitely see myself fitting in with their defense," he said.
