Buffs Sign Offensive Lineman Kanan Ray

BOULDER – Kanan Ray, an offensive lineman from Chatsworth, Calif., has signed a financial aid agreement with the Colorado football program and will enroll in school for the spring 2018 semester, head coach Mike MacIntyre announced Friday afternoon.

A transfer from UCLA, Ray will have four years of eligibility with the Buffaloes and will begin practicing this spring.

"We're really excited about Kanan and his ability on the offensive line," MacIntyre said. "He can play guard and tackle and he brings a lot to the table. He was a young man we recruited before and we finally got him here, so we are excited about having him at CU and his future is very bright."

Ray, listed at 6-4, 280-pounds, was rated a four-star prospect by Rivals.com and ESPN coming out of Sierra Canyon High School where he led his team to two-straight state championships as a junior and a senior in 2015 and 2016.

He was a two-time All-State, All-Area and All-League selection and was named the most valuable player of his league as a junior and senior.

MaxPreps.com named him a high school All-American and he was invited to play in the U.S. Army All-America Bowl game following his senior year.

In helping lead the Trailblazers to a perfect 16-0 record his senior year, Ray and his fellow offensive linemen helped Sierra Canyon rush for 238.8 yards per game, pass for 155.5 while scoring 82 total touchdowns and averaging 36.1 points per game. He also recorded 11 tackles and two sacks playing on defense.

The spring semester at CU begins on Jan. 16 and the Buffalo football team is scheduled to begin spring practices on Feb. 16.
