Buffs offer DeSoto corner first

With five different coaches spending time recruiting the Dallas area this spring, the Buffaloes have made inroads with 2017 recruits in the area, and they have also discovered some 2018 targets. DeSoto (Texas) High cornerback Gemon Green, who is finishing up his sophomore year, received his first offer from Colorado in early April.

“I was excited. My parents were congratulating me and I was saying thank you,” Green said. “I had a bunch of teammates that visited Colorado but I couldn't go because of track. They all said they like it out there. They say I need to go there one day to visit.”

Green's godbrother Trevone Boykin won numerous awards during his recent college career at TCU, including the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year award in 2014. Boykin told Green to stay patient because one day colleges would value his potential.

But Green did not have to stay patient. Fresno State, Utah State and New Mexico have joined Colorado in offering him recently. He has also drawn early interest from Texas.

"I didn't expect this yet. I thought I would have to wait until the spring of my junior year to get this type of interest," Green said. "It is real humbling. I am hungry."

Because of his relationship with Boykin, Green hopes to hear from TCU in the future. He also likes Texas a lot because he is close with Longhorns receiver DeAndre McNeal.

The Buffaloes also now have a connection to Green, and DeSoto.

"My teammate Laviska Shenault is committed to Colorado and he talks about the program with me every day," Green said. "He is saying it is a great school with a great cornerbacks coach (Charles Clark) and he hopes I commit there one day."

A long 6-foot-2, 175-pound cornerback, Green has good range. He prides himself on his man coverage skills and footwork, and is working to improve on his ball awareness.
