Buffs get instant help at DL in Mustafa Johnson

Modesto (Calif.) C.C. defensive tackle Mustafa Johnson committed to and signed with Colorado on National Signing Day.

Johnson officially visited Colorado this past weekend, and the visit put the Buffs over top of Kansas, who he visited the weekend prior. Johnson also picked up an offer from Oregon State recently.

Johnson's recruitment started very late as his first offer came from Kansas on December 6. The Buffaloes offered the next day.

The 6-foot-2, 285-pound three-star recruit recorded an impressive 58 total tackles at his DT spot and also had 6.5 sacks in 11 games as a true freshman at the JuCo level.

Out of high school, Johnson was a full-qualifier that ended up in the JuCo ranks. He will be a sophomore with a redshirt year available at Colorado and will sign in the December 20-22 signing period to enroll early.

Colorado had one of the worst rush defenses in the Pac-12 a season ago, and Mustafa could bring depth to the defensive line right away. He is still growing though, as he played high school linebacker at 235 pounds as a junior. He bulked up to 285-pounds in just a couple of years.
