Mel Tucker and the Colorado Buffaloes football program have added a new commitment to its 2019 class, with Torrance (Calif.) El Camino C.C. inside linebacker Quinn Perry pledging to CU.

Perry is the third new Buff in the past couple of days, as athlete Daniel Oats and defensive linemen Jaunta'vius Johnson also committed to Colorado.

"I committed on the visit," Perry told CUSportsNation.com. "I can't wait to get over there. I'll get there in May."

Perry recalled the moment when he committed. Mel Tucker was fired up about it, to say the least.

"Coach Tucker was there in with me, and I told him my family and I were confident in my decision [to commit]. He was ecstatic about it," said Perry. "As soon as he walked out the door, he screamed, 'We got a new Buffalo! We got Quinn!' I was really happy.

"The whole coaching staff lit up and said that they got 10 times better on defense. Rick [Gamboa] just graduated, so they have an open spot [at inside linebacker] and they think I can fit that in every way possible with the way I play. They're really excited."

Perry, Oats, and Johnson all officially visited Colorado this past weekend, leading to their commitments. Perry had been to Denver on a few occasions, but this was his first time in Boulder.

"I had good expectations coming into it," Perry said. "The coaching staff was really excited to get me up there and meet the players that were hosting me. I definitely wasn't let down at all. The facilities are definitely top notch. They're beautiful. It's just a great energy once you walk through those doors. Overall, it was a perfect experience in my book."

The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder enjoyed hanging out with the Colorado coaching staff and spent a lot of time with linebackers coach Ross Els.

"They really took me under their wing," said Perry. "They showed me what Colorado football is all about and how I'll fit into their program right away."

Perry will come to Colorado this May as a junior with a redshirt year available.

"It's an amazing opportunity and I can't wait to get working for these coaches," Perry said. "I'm speechless. All of this hard work has paid off. Going through high school and not getting recruited and being told I should just stick to Rugby ... It just goes to show if you trust the process, positive things can happen."

Perry also held offers from Akron, Hawaii, New Mexico, Old Dominion, and UTSA.
