Bey mentions some early favorites

Tyler Bey's calm demeanor on the basketball court helped him excel this spring, even when college coaches were in the stands watching.

“I tried not to pay attention to who was watching me,” said Bey, a 6-foot-7.5, 205-pound forward prospect from the Class of 2017. “I just blocked it out and played basketball.”

The Las Vegas native now has scholarship offers from Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Northern Arizona, San Diego State, Utah, Utah State, Washington State, Tulane and Wyoming. Most of the offers have come through in recent months.

He is also hearing from Arizona State and Iowa, among other programs.

“I probably will go visit San Diego [State] sometime this month,” said the soft-spoken Bey. “I also have strong interest in Utah, Colorado, Nevada and Iowa.”

Bey confirmed those five programs currently top his list. He hopes to line up a trip with Colorado for sometime in the future.

“I just like them to be honest,” Bey said of the Buffaloes. “The coaches at Colorado are really nice and I like what I have heard from them. They said they love my game and they really want to get me up there.”

Bey plays at the Middlebrooks Academy, the same program that produced recent Colorado signee Lucas Siewert.

Bey averaged 17.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game during his last season at Las Vegas High. He is known as an elite defender.

“Tyler can be as good as he wants to be,” Las Vegas High head coach Lamar Bigby told the Las Vegas Review-Journal last summer. “Some people call me crazy, but I think he's in the mold of a Shawn Marion-type. If he ever figures out the mid-range shooting, he's got the motor and athletic ability.”

Bey said he wants to play for a college program that is known for moving the ball and playing at a fast pace.

“Other than that, I just want to fit in. I hope to find the perfect fit for me,” he said.
