FORT WORTH, Texas -- In one of the most anticipated games in Colorado program history, the Buffaloes won a thriller, 45-42, at TCU in coach Deion Sanders' debut.

Colorado played four quarters of consistent and exciting football to stun the Horned Frogs, who were the national runner up last season, on their home field. Shedeur Sanders, like many of his teammates, surpassed expectations with a program-record 510 passing yards and 4 touchdowns,

Sanders completed 38 of 47 passes, and four Colorado players had more than 100 receiving yards. Freshman running back Dylan Edwards had an incredible debut with four touchdowns, including three through the air. He led the Buffs with 135 receiving yards and added 24 on the ground.

Edwards, who scored the first touchdown of the 'Coach Prime' era and the eventual game-winner with 4:25 left in the fourth quarter, was the first true freshman to start at running back for the Buffs since Kent Kahl in 1991.

Colorado showed off its explosive new offense, and Sanders was effective at spreading the ball around. Two-way star Travis Hunter (119 yards), Xavier Weaver (118) and Jimmy Horn Jr. (117) joined Edwards with more than 100 through the air, as Sanders broke the school record previously set by Tyler Hansen (474 passing yards) in 2011.

It was an astonishing offensive performance for Colorado, which was a three-touchdown underdog in Fort Worth, Texas, and delivered 565 yards and 30 first downs.

The defense struggled at times and allowed 541 yards, but Hunter had one of the team's two interceptions and it was a huge fourth-down stop with 55 seconds left that sealed the victory. There were lead changes on six consecutive possessions in the final 18 minutes of the game before the big fourth-down play from Colorado's defense.

For the first time since 2021, the Buffs led at halftime 17-14. Colorado converted 6 of 9 third downs in the first half and had few issues despite one of the biggest offseason roster overhauls in the history of the sport.

There were some huge plays on defense. Trevor Woods came up big, intercepting Chandler Morris as the Frogs were in scoring position.

Hunter followed suit with a touchdown-snatching interception as well.

Hunter, who nearly had two highlight-reel catches for touchdowns, was as advertised -- a game-breaking star at wide receiver and cornerback.

Sy’veon Wilkerson led Colorado with 45 rushing yards and a 2-yard touchdown immediately after one of Hunter's spectacular near-misses, demonstrating the resilience the Buffs offense showed throughout this game.

Sanders was spectacular in the first half, throwing for 182 yards (22-28) and the touchdown from Edwards on the Buffs’ first drive.

The Horned Frogs stayed in contention with a balanced attack on offense. Emani Bailey had 164 rushing yards, and Alabama transfer Trey Sanders had three touchdowns. One came shortly after an Edwards fumble on Colorado’s 22-yard line late in the first half.
