Wallace leaning toward the Buffs

During an interview with BuffStampede.com last week, Ca'Ron Baham hinted he might be a package deal with Jarrius Wallace. The talented Marrero (La.) John Ehret teammates are both scheduled to visit Colorado on Jan. 15, and Baham said they'll check out Tulane together on Jan. 23.

“I think most likely it is going to be Colorado,” Wallace said of his upcoming college decision. “I feel like I am needed there and wanted there so I am leaning toward them. That is the main school I am feeling good about right now.

“They are also giving me a chance to go to college with my best friend and my brother, Ca'Ron Baham. A lot of people don't get to go to college with their best friend. We have been close ever since we were three years old. We grew up in the same neighborhood, always went to the same school and we are always at each other's houses.”

Colorado is recruiting both Wallace and Baham for defensive back. A 6-foot-1, 175-pounder, Wallace earned first-team all-district and all-metro honors as a safety after recording roughly 40 tackles, seven interceptions and one forced fumble during his senior campaign. He helped John Ehret to a district title and an appearance in the 5A state championship game, while Baham provided leadership from the sideline as he began the process of recovering from a torn ACL.

“Ca'Ron and I have the same style of play, we're both physical. The only thing is the whole time we've always played on different sides of the ball,” Wallace said. “He's always used his speed on offense and I've always used my speed on defense. It would be fun to play in the same [defensive backfield] at Colorado.”

Wallace was verbally committed to UCF earlier in the process. He recently opened up his recruitment, and in addition to Colorado, he has five other reported offers. Safeties coach Joe Tumpkin is responsible for his recruitment from the Buffs' staff.

“My [high school head] coach knows of which other colleges are recruiting me and what other schools I will be visiting,” Wallace said. “I will have to ask him about all my visits when we go back to school on Tuesday. Right now I just know I am going to Colorado on Jan. 15.

“I am going to go out there to see what they have to offer me both academically and athletically and see if I am really needed out there. We'll see how it works out. I have enjoyed talking with Colorado's coaches and how they would see me fitting in. They have a building football team and a good Engineering program. I have heard a lot about the campus. It looks beautiful out there.”
