BOULDER— After being in fall camp for almost a month the Buffs’ defense is ready to start hitting other players and this Friday's game against Colorado State is the perfect time to do that.

With so many big hitters on the defense such as Chidobe Awuzie, Kenneth Olugbode and Tedric Thompson getting back into the football grind has been something they have been looking forward too.

“I’m just excited to get back into the football season, I’m just ready to play, you know we get tired of hitting the same people everyday, I’m just ready and excited to get ready to play,” Thompson on this thoughts about the rivalry game.

According to Colorado’s SID, Colorado has sold 27,805 tickets to the Rocky Mountain Showdown as of August 26th, with only 5,432 of the tickets being students, that’s not enough to get the team fired up during the game.

“It’s extremely important, we feed off our crowd, when we hear our crowd going crazy for us we feed off them. The louder the crowd is the happier it makes us.”

Especially in a game of this caliber having a roaring crowd, dressed in black and gold will lift this team up and give them the momentum to go out and dominate Colorado State.

When looking at the defense this year, it’s easy to see they have a lot of veterans and experience, not only in the players but also with the defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt. The team has been able to play under Leavitt for a year now and they have learned his system. There is no doubt the defense will be better this year compared to last season.

“The same thing he preaches against every other team, play physical, play our game and not really worry about what the other team is doing.”

This year the defense is going to need to make big stops in order for the offense to put up big points and that all starts with the game this Friday.

“We need to communicate, I feel like if we communicate we’re going to be fine, not only against CSU but everybody else we play. So as along we communicate and pursue to the ball we’ll be fine.”

It’s going to be a fun game to watch Friday night. With this powerhouse defense there should be big plays and stops that will give Colorado that momentum over Colorado State.
