Sosa on his way to visit Colorado

Isaac Sosa has seen his recruiting stock sky rocket in recent weeks. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound guard from Boca Raton, Fla., would have likely been a highly rated prospect from the Class of 2008 but he did not have the benefit of playing a full high school career in the United States.
"He came in late from Puerto Rico and he didn't get a chance to play here until his senior year at Grandview Prep," explained Sosa's AAU coach Art Alvarez, who is helping guide him through the recruiting process. "He had a great senior season."

Sosa averaged 19.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and four assists per game. He made 52 percent of his field goal attempts and shot 79 percent from the free-throw line. Sosa was named the 3A-2A-1A Player of the Year by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
Sosa averaged 14.7 points in 10 games with the Miami Tropics AAU squad this year.
"He is a special player," said Coach Alvarez. "His upside is tremendous. He is one of the best shooters to ever play for the Miami Tropics. He hit 53 three pointers in a row right in front of me, it was something I had never witnessed before. He wasn't just stationary. He was dribbling it up from half court, shooting, backpedaling, catching, dribbling up, shooting."
Another one of Sosa's best attributes as a player is his basketball IQ.
"He knows what play to run in different situations, he knows how to hit guys that are cutting," added Alvarez. "That is why a lot of colleges are looking at him as a combo guard because he is such a great shooter and he is also intelligent so he can run your offense."
Colorado, Kansas State, Central Florida, Washington State, UAB, Old Dominion, SMU, Virginia Commonwealth, East Carolina and Hofstra are all vying for Sosa's signature. He took his first official visit to Central Florida earlier this month and he is flying out to visit Colorado today.
"The entire Colorado staff from [head coach Jeff] Bzdelik to Coach [Steve] McClain to Coach [Charles] Baker have been great," Alvarez said. "Isaac is very appreciative of their interest. They have been recruiting him hard; they want him. I think every 18-year old kid wants to feel that they are wanted and he does with Colorado. They have just been great.
"He is actually going on his visit to Colorado with his dad because that is a school that they are really going to give a serious look at. I think after that visit they will then make the decision as to whether they are going to take more visits or if they are ready to go ahead and make a decision. That will be the next decision for Isaac. I know he has been looking forward to his visit to Colorado. Colorado is a high Division-1 program with it being in the Big 12."
The signing period for basketball began on April 16th and extends through May 21st.
Academically, Sosa will have no problem qualifying for college. He maintains a 3.9 GPA.
