Colorado Football Coach Mike MacIntyre on Recruiting

“I think recruiting has just kind of kept building and with the stability of us being there, they see that our program is improving. And then also I set in a new kind of recruiting policy, a whole recruiting office, about 18 months ago. I wanted to do it with we first got here but we did not really have the budget, but now we’ve got it all set up and I think you’re seeing the fruition of our while recruiting staff along with our coaches that recruiting that we have built-in system that’s very effective. It’s enabling us to make quicker inroads, quicker evaluations, and be able to do a good job and then on top of that, you add the new facilities. When recruits see the new facilities, they are blown away, so it’s kind of icing on top of the cake. Im excited about where we’re headed in that area,” Said Mike MacIntyre on what has helped sell Colorado over the last 18 months.

How Does Colorado Stack Up Against The PAC 12

Colorado’s Class of 2017 Recruiting Class is ranked 29th out of 100 teams by Rivals.com. It seems as though the Rise is Real as the Colorado Coaches have coined that term over the summer. Currently Colorado has 19 commitments, two 4-star commitments, 14 3-star commitments, their average prospect commitment has an average star ranking of 2.95. So how does their recruiting efforts compare to other PAC 12 opponents?

Arizona who has 25 commitments already (leads the conference) has three 4-star commitments and has an average star ranking of 3.04. USC has 13 commitments, Eight 4-Star Commitments, and an average star ranking of 3.54 and Washington who has 11 commitments, has four 4 star commitments, and an average star rating of 3.27.

Strong Recruiting Efforts

Ok, so Colorado is behind those programs in terms of landing big time recruits, but Colorado is creeping up on those programs recruiting wise, thanks to big efforts from assistant coaches like Co-Offensive Coordinator Darrin Chiaverini and Defensive Coordinator Jim Leavitt.

Two coaches who’s names continue to come up when recruits talk Colorado Football. Leavitt who recruits the Southeast Section of the Country has landed Carson Wells a 6-foot-4, 235 pound Defensive Linemen and also got 6-foot-5, 235 pound Defensive End Shamar Hamilton out of ASA Miami JC to commit. While neither Wells or Hamilton are 4 star guys, their highlight films speak volumes and with Leavitt’s last stop as an assistant coach being with the 49ers before landing in Colorado, he likely knows a thing or two about top tier talent.

Chiaverini is a younger coach and was recently an assistant at Texas Tech and his Texas connections has landed 6-foot-3, 290 pound Offensive Linemen William Sherman out of powerhouse Allen, Texas and 4-star receiver Jaylon Jackson out of Cedar Hill.

Chiaverini on Recruiting

“I think our success (recruiting wise) is a combination of us being more aggressive, much more creative in terms of what we do on social media, and how we show Boulder and our facilities. Our facilities are some of the best in the country, but you still have to get prospects to Boulder. Our staff has done an excellent job of developing relationships, get kids up here on unofficial visits, meeting the great people of Boulder, and getting them to see the pride and tradition of this program,” Said Chiaverini on recruiting.

So What's The Next Step

The recruiting wars will continue as the high school football season and college football season kickoff over the next few weeks and one thing is for sure: Colorado is going to be a team Elite College Football Programs have to sway their most sought after guys away from. The Buffs are a serious contender for prized prep football players thanks to strong efforts from the coaches and the entire community who have invested back into the program by upgrading facilities to rival anyones. Colorado Football is close to being back on the map, all the Buffs need to do now to increase program prestige is to: Win.

Your Thoughts? What has contributed to keeping Colorado Football in the mix for some of the Nation's Top Recruits?

By CL34

New facilities, activity on social media, coaches that know how to recruit, sucking less.

By 49erswon

I will go with Chev, JL and JT and the social media from Chev. First class recruiter when it comes to Chev.

By Rraalph

Combination of facilities, yearly progress in terms of competitiveness and showing that one guy can help change the team, Leavitt, Chiv, Tumpkin, Adams, and Clark. Can't pin point one thing, it's a culmination of all the above.
