Hodgins recaps trip to Boulder, talks about other four finalists

Isaiah Hodgins was able to make it out to Colorado to check out the Buffs on Friday, but the four-star receiver prospect from Walnut Creek (Calif.) Berean Christian did not have a chance to make his scheduled visit to Oregon State to watch the Beavers' spring game.

“Our flight coming home from Colorado got delayed twice but we made it home,” he recapped. “I loved Colorado, it was great. I loved everything about it. I got to sit down and talk with the receivers coach (Darrin Chiaverini) and the head coach (Mike MacIntyre). We got to look at the offense and they gave me a tour of their new facilities.

“I enjoyed getting to go see the Communications building, because that is what I want to major in. I got to explore the campus and look around. They definitely did a good job of showing me all the facilities and they want me to come in and try to make an impact immediately. Colorado left a great impression. I really liked it there, it was a great visit.”

Hodgins still plans to give a commitment sometime between mid-May and the end of next month. Colorado is in his top five, and he talked about his other four finalists:

Oregon: “The facilities there definitely stand out, as well as how they treat their players. I like how all the academic advisers and coaches are on the same page, it is like a close knit family. Everyone there cares for you and is going to help you in every aspect of life to make you a better person.”

Oregon State: “I love everything about Oregon State. I love their coaches and their fan base. It is kind of like Oregon in the sense it is located in a college town with a close knit feeling.”

Boise State: “The area around Boise State is beautiful and I really like their coaches. I get along with them well, and I could definitely see myself playing for them. Their facilities are really nice, too, and I like how they run their program and their practices and everything.”

Washington State: “They have a great Communications program, it is top five in the country. Their coaches are definitely top of the line. [Head] coach [Mike] Leach has helped get receivers to the NFL. I also liked how they run their practices. They're always competing and kind of have that dog in them. I am going back to Washington State to see their spring game this week and that is probably the last visit I am going to take.”

Like most heavily recruited prospects, Hodgins has enjoyed the recruiting process but he has also found it overwhelming at times.'

“I'd be lying if I said I wasn't ready to decide and be done with recruiting," he said.

Hodgins was named the Tri-County Stone League's Most Valuable Player in 2015, and he also earned first-team all-country, all-area and all-state small schools honors. Hodgins caught 94 passes for 1,483 yards and 23 touchdowns while helping the Eagles to 11 wins. In three seasons on varsity, he has nearly 3,100 receiving yards.

“Colleges definitely like that I am a big, fast, physical wide receiver that can go up and get the ball. I am never scared of anybody,” he said.
