Four-star receiver will take two more trips before deciding

Before making a May decision, Isaiah Hodgins plans to take two more unofficial visits. The four-star receiver prospect from Walnut Creek (Calif.) Berean Christian will check out Colorado at the end of this week and he will be in Corvallis to watch Oregon State's spring game on Saturday.

Colorado, Oregon State, Oregon, Washington State and Boise State comprise Hodgins' top five. He has offers from each of those schools, along with offers from Colorado State, Hawaii, Nevada, Purdue, San Jose State, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

“I am definitely excited for it,” Hodgins said of his upcoming trip to Boulder. “A lot of people have told me great things about it, I expect it to be a great time, a great visit. Their coaches are great, their receivers coach (Darrin Chiaverini) and Coach [Mike] Mac[Intyre], the head coach, I have talked to him and I really like him.

“I like where the program is headed, I feel like it is on its way up. They have great facilities and I am pretty sure they just changed their offense, too, they are throwing the ball more so it seems like a good place.”

His dad, mom and brother have been accompanying him on his visits. Hodgins said he is looking for a college that has a good Communications school, and he is also looking for a program that can give him an opportunity to play as a freshman.

What are his thoughts about the Beavers?

“This will be my second time going to Oregon State because I went there last year. I already love all their coaches and the fan base and everything about Oregon State,” Hodgins said. “I expect that to be another great visit. I'll see more of the facilities and some new construction they are doing. My visit is going to be during their spring game so I'll be able to see them play.”

Hodgins was originally planning to make a commitment in late April. He now plans to make his college decision sometime shortly after Berean Christian's spring practices conclude on May 13.

“I still plan to decide before the end of May," he said. "That will give me a little bit more time to make sure I make the right decision."

Hodgins was named the Tri-County Stone League's Most Valuable Player in 2015, and he also earned first-team all-country, all-area and all-state small schools honors. Hodgins caught 94 passes for 1,483 yards and 23 touchdowns while helping the Eagles to 11 wins. In three seasons on varsity, he has nearly 3,100 receiving yards.

“Colleges definitely like that I am a big, fast, physical wide receiver that can go up and get the ball. I am never scared of anybody,” he said.
