Decision pending for Kunaszyk?

Jordan Kunaszyk was torn between Colorado and Cal before spending 48 hours in Berkeley late last week. And following his official visit with the Golden Bears, the 2015 Junior College All-American remains torn between the two Pac-12 schools.

“I am still sleeping on it and praying about it,” said Kunaszyk, a 6-foot-2.75, 226-pound inside linebacker from American River College. “I'd like to make a decision soon, but I am not really sure exactly when I will yet.”

Kunaszyk had already been to Cal as an unofficial visitor twice before taking the official visit.

“I had already seen pretty much everything but on my official visit I got to look into the academics at Cal more and I really like the facilities,” he said. “I really like the football aspect of how Cal runs the program, the defense they run. If I went there, it would be a great opportunity for me to come in and play right away.”

Since taking his official visit to Colorado, Kunaszyk has stayed in daily contact with Buffs head coach Mike MacIntyre, offensive line coach Klayton Adams, and senior defensive lineman Jordan Carrell, who just happens to be his best friend.

“Coach 'Mac” has been telling me how they have a need at linebacker so I am both wanted and needed at Colorado,” Kunaszyk said. “The program there is definitely on the rise. The players have bought into the coaching staff, the campus is amazing and the facilities are top notch.”

Although Colorado and Cal run different defensive schemes, both programs project Kunaszyk as a middle linebacker. He recorded 118 tackles as a redshirt freshman last fall.

Kunaszyk will earn his AA degree in Social Sciences at American River College later this spring with three years of eligibility remaining.

Iowa State tried to throw its hat in the ring last week but Kunaszyk said he has narrowed his focus to Colorado and Cal. He will not take any more trips.

Kunaszyk turned down offers from UNLV, Southern Mississippi, Texas State, New Mexico and Fresno State earlier this winter.

“I know that I can't go wrong whether I go to Cal or Colorado,” he said. “I think they are both great places and I could see myself at both spots. So whenever I feel the time is right and I feel 100 percent committed to the school, then I'll make my announcement and tell both coaching staffs.

“I would like to do that sometime this week but that is only if I am ready. I really like both places and I see myself at both places so just the gut feeling I have will play a big role in my decision.”
