Colorado offense is 'just scratching the surface'

Colorado's offense last season set all sorts of new school records, and with not much turnover on the offensive side of the ball in terms of personnel, as well as keeping the same offensive staff, the CU offense had very high expectations coming into the 2017 season.
But through three games, the offense has not carried the team like many thought, including myself. Colorado is 3-0 this season but is averaging 31.7 points per game and have faced all non-Power Five opponents.
With the No. 6 team in the country coming to Boulder on Saturday, the Buffaloes offense needs to work out its kinks. Wide receiver Devin Ross feels confident in himself and his teammates heading into the Pac-12 showdown.
"We’re definitely ready," Ross said. "We’ve had a good few weeks, and offensively, we’re just scratching the surface. We’ve got a lot of potential as you can see and we’ve got to come out this next week and be ready for Pac-12 play. It’s going to be a tough opponent, a rematch of the Pac-12 championship, and we’re ready."
Bryce Bobo and Shay Fields are the vertical threats for the Colorado offense and have been utilized well by quarterback Steven Montez. Through just three games this season, Bobo has already matched his receiving touchdown mark (2) from last year. Bobo also leads the team with 21 receptions, which is half of what he recorded last season (41).

Fields led the team in touchdown receptions (9) and receiving yards (845) last season and is on pace to do so this year as well. He has two receiving touchdowns and 257 receiving yards.
For Ross, he was Sefo Liufau's favorite underneath target last season and led the team with 66 receptions. Ross is currently third on the team in receptions but had his breakout game against Northern Colorado last week.
Ross caught a team high eight passes on 10 targets for 143 yards and a touchdown.
"It definitely felt great, personally," Ross said about scoring his first touchdown of the season. "I’m not a selfish person at all though, so I’m just glad we got the win. I do like to produce though, so I’m glad I got my first touchdown of the season."
But now Colorado faces a beast of an opponent in Washington, and this CU football team has to have a great week of preparation.
"We did a lot of bad things that we need to fix before we play Washington," Fields said. "That’s what we have to do this week in practice."
