D'Shawn Schwartz is the top ranked in-state basketball prospect from the Class of 2017.

Playing with KC Run GMC was an adjustment for D'Shawn Schwartz this spring, he admits. The four-star prospect from Colorado Springs knows his new club team will help him develop at a faster pace, though.

“The players I am playing with now, they play a lot faster,” said Schwartz, a 6-foot-5.5, 215-pound wing. “I think it will help me to keep elevating my game, and help me get ready for college.”

Ranked among the nation's top 70 prospects from the Class of 2017 by Rivals, Scout and ESPN, Schwartz has no shortage of options when it comes to picking a college. The four programs that have been showing the most consistent interest in him recently have been Colorado, Cal, Stanford and UConn.

“At this point I am just trying to enjoy it,” Schwartz said when asked about the recruiting process. “It was a little stressful at first but now that a lot of the mid-majors have kind of fallen off and high majors have started coming on, it has been a little bit easier to manage.”

Schwartz recently hosted an in-home visit with Colorado. Head coach Tad Boyle and all three of the Buffaloes' assistant coaches were present at the meeting. Colorado has been recruiting Schwartz since he was in middle school.

“They do a good job of letting me know nobody is going to recruit me harder than they will,” Schwartz said of the Buffs. “The home visit was really cool. It is just a great program, great staff. I like their coaches. I have built a great relationship with them.”

Schwartz has been up to Boulder countless times since his recruitment began. He was at the Coors Events Center to watch the Buffs defeat Cal and Arizona State last season.

“The atmosphere at CU is great,” Schwartz added. “Every time I go up there, I really enjoy being around the people, being around the players. It is a great place and I really like it. I feel comfortable up there.”

Schwartz plans to visit some of the out-of-state programs recruiting him. He hopes to set up those trips “soon.”

“And then I should probably make my decision before my senior year,” he said.

Schwartz prides himself on his basketball IQ, his mid-range pull-up, his ability to get the rim and his ability to guard multiple positions. He averaged 19.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals per contest during his junior season at Sand Creek.

Schwartz has high goals for the upcoming July evaluation period.

“I want to prove I am one of the best players in the country,” he said.
