With two scholarshiped kickers already on the roster, the Buffaloes did not have room to add another this year. But fortunately for Colorado, the top in-state kicker prospect from the Class of 2016 has decided to join the Buffs' program as a preferred walk-on.

Davis Price, a 6-foot-3, 180-pounder from Evergreen (Colo.) High, expects to be part of the group of 105 players that report to camp at Colorado in early August.

“I have always been a big fan of the Buffs. My dad went there so I have always wanted to be part of a legacy there,” Price said of his college decision. “I love the atmosphere of the games and love the campus, so I really have always wanted to go there.

“When I went on my unofficial visit a few weeks ago and saw a practice and how everything is going and all the facilities they have, that is really when I made my decision and knew that is where I want to be.”

Air Force, Wyoming and Brown were some other colleges that showed interest in Price.

“I did visit some other schools but CU was definitely always my No. 1,” he said.

Diego Gonzalez had a rocky season as the Buffaloes' starting place kicker in 2015, but by all accounts, the senior-to-be had a solid spring. Chris Graham handled kickoff duties for Colorado after getting placed on scholarship last summer.

“I have been told by Colorado's coaches that I will be able to come in and compete. There are obviously no promises I'll get a starting role, but I'd like to try at least,” Price said.

A first-team all-state and all-conference selection both as a junior and senior, Price considers his kickoffs to be his strength. He sent 87 percent of his kickoffs deep enough for a touchback during his final prep season at Evergreen.

“His kickoffs are currently ahead of his field-goal ability,” Kohl's Kicking wrote on Price. “He generates good speed and creates good tempo through the ball. The talent is there on field-goals, he just needs to clean up his ball striking to help maximize his ability.”

Also an all-state academic selection, Price plans to either study Business or Biology at CU.
