Arizona lands big OT
Arizona was in need of adding some more bulk up front with its 2013 class, and the Wildcats did just that when San Diego (Calif.) Torrey Pines offensive tackle recruit Jacob Alsadek announced his decision Friday afternoon.
The 6-foot-7, 325-pound recruit chose UA over offers from Arizona State, Colorado and Kansas State. Alsadek took an unofficial visit to UA earlier this spring and he enjoyed his time in Tucson.
"I met with all the coaches and I liked talking with them a lot," he said last week. "Coach (Rich) Rodriguez is a really great guy. And I like Matt Dudek and my mom thought he was real funny, so we still talk about him a lot.
"And I really liked the campus, it was really nice. And the area around the campus felt like a really good place to be."
Playing time was a big factor for Alsadek in his recruitment, and he felt the opportunity to play early would be there at UA.
"Being able to play as much as I can, because that's what is going to give a chance to play at the next level," he said. "The more experience that you have and more time you have on the field, then you increase your chances of playing longer - which is my ultimate goal to play as long as I can."
With so many de-commitments each year, the big offensive tackle wanted to take his time and make sure the school he picked was the right choice.
"I want to be able to make a decision that I know I can feel good about, so I don't want to push myself or push my family into a commitment," he said last week. "I don't want to de-commit from a school, I don't want to be that kind of person.
"I want to be the kind of person that sticks with it and believes in the program and better the program. A coach like coach Rodriguez really believes and I believe that he can do some great things out there."
Alsadek is the Wildcats 23rd commitment overall and the second in the month of July.
