Is Daniels solid to BC?

Worcester (Mass.) Worcester Academy post-graduate linebacker Steven Daniels signed with Boston College last year but just fell short of admission. Now he's doing a fifth year up the road from Chestnut Hill but rumors began to swirl that he was homesick and possibly looking around. What's the latest?

"I think that homesick article was blown out of proportion a bit," said Worcester Academy head coach Dave Dykeman of his 6-foot-0, 235-pound standout. "It was his first couple weeks here, he was far away from home and he got hit up on an interview right after a game and he said he was missing home. Then it kind of took on a life of it's own."

Dykeman said that BC fans don't have anything to worry about when it comes to Daniels.

"I talk to coach Sirmans and coach Devine all the time and I know Steven talks to coach Sirmans quite a bit," Dykeman said. "He's been to at least two home games, it might even be three, and he's starting to get more comfortable here with his teammates and the area. Everyone gets homesick the first time they leave home when they are young, it happens and it's expected for a player coming in from Ohio. I think he's settling in."

Does that mean he's solid to Boston College?

"He's committed to Boston College, he's happy with his decision and he's a great kid so BC fans should have much to worry about," he said. "He has three high school teammates on the roster, he has been up there a bunch of times and when coaches call me about him, I tell them he's solidly committed to BC."

Daniels recently had a big game in a loss to Salisbury (Conn.) School with a sack, forced fumble, tackle for a loss and a blocked field goal. He is also playing some fullback for Worcester.

"He's a terrific player," said Dyekman. "When he hits you you know it and he covers a lot of ground. And he's a load to bring down when he has the ball. BC is getting a good one, but they knew that already."

BC recruiting coach Ben Sirmans was on hand Saturday to see Daniels in action and he spoke to him Friday. Daniels is the highest-ranked player in the 2012 recruiting class. He is a four-star and ranked as the No. 3 prep prospect in the country.
