Pitt commit Parks gets an exclamation point

After committing in June, William Parks made his first trip to Pittsburgh for the Pitt Man Weekend last week, and it was everything Parks expected. Today, the Philadelphia (Pa.) Germantown cornerback talks to Panther-Lair.com about the visit, the city and trying to get more recruits to come to Pitt.

"It was good," he said. "I met more players, former players, the recruits that were coming in, incoming freshman and the rest of the coaching staff. Everything went well. I met a lot of people. I got to see the whole city.

"I realize what I'm getting myself into, and that solidified everything. That put the exclamation point on everything. Every question I had they answered. Everything was good."

During the visit, Parks got to see more of the city he'll call home for the next four or five years. He got to see Heinz Field from inside the press box. He was also very impressed with the renovations to the UPMC Complex on the South Side.

The 2012 cornerback also got to view the city of Pittsburgh in a different light.

"That was the first time I got to see the city at night," he said. "It was really nice. It's like my second home, but it's just five hours away; that's all."

While at Heinz Field, the Pitt coaches hosted a barbeque that allowed the recruits to meet and interact. The food wasn't too shabby either.

"The food was good!" Parks said. "I was about to take some home, so my mom could taste it."

During the visit, Parks spent his time with Dakota Conwell, Jaylen Coleman and Marchez Coates. Parks said the four got along very well, and with him and Conwell already committed, they did some recruiting work on their fellow visitors.

"I was trying to talk them into committing," he said. "I told them this is where it's at, this is where you can become a successful person, not just a football player. They want to help you follow your dreams and be whatever you want to be."

Parks also plans to attend a few games at Heinz Field this season. He's not sure exactly which ones, but he will definitely be there when Notre Dame visits on Sept. 24.
