McKenzie searching for a fit

For the second time this spring, Jaborian McKenzie got the chance to get an up-close view of Mississippi State's gridiron program. And for the second straight time, the junior from Trinity Episcopal (Natchez, Miss.) School left with a good impression of the Bulldogs.

"Everything was good," said the 5-foot-9 and 175-pound McKenzie, who goes by the nickname Tip. "I got a chance to see the offense and it was nice. I think I could really fit in great with their offense. The fans were great and I just loved it all.

"I got a chance to talk to Coach Greg Knox and Coach Dan Mullen. They were telling me they really want to see me at camp and that they were glad I came to watch their spring game."

McKenzie, who had over 2,600 yards of total offense last year, currently owns offers from Vanderbilt, Memphis and Southern Miss. He also has other trips planned for the near future and noted of other schools showing him heavy interest, which includes the Bulldogs.

"I am going to Vanderbilt this coming weekend," said McKenzie. "I am also supposed to go to Indiana and SMU soon. I just left the Rivals VTO combine and I have another one of those combines on April 23rd. Everything was good at the VTO combine and I felt I performed pretty well.

"Then this summer I know I am camping at Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Auburn. Along with State, SMU and Ole Miss are also showing me interest."

Of course, McKenzie will have his own spring drills to focus on and he has a few goals in mind concerning his own improvements.

"We're just looking for some guys to step up and fill some spots," said McKenzie. "We have some experienced guys back but we need some young guys to step up and keep us going. As far as myself, I just ant to focus on getting my speed down lower and running good routes.

As far as the next level is concerned, McKenzie said he is being recruited at two spots by different schools. And early in his process, he currently has no favorite.

"Some schools say running back and then some schools like Mississippi State say slot receiver," noted McKenzie. "It is still kinda too early to say I have a leader and I am just enjoying seeing all these schools right now."
