Iowa City DB takes in Nebraska practice Saturday

One border-state recruit made his way to Lincoln on Saturday to check out the Huskers practice and team scrimmage on Saturday.

Iowa City (Iowa) West athlete Charles Rogers, being recruited by the Huskers as a defensive back, made the trip over to check out Nebraska as they make their way past the halfway point of spring practice. The 6-2, 185-pound Rogers had already been to Lincoln after he took an unofficial visit to see the game day atmosphere of Memorial Stadium this past fall.

This trip was certainly beneficial as he got to meet with new Husker secondary coach Corey Raymond.

"I saw a lot of good things," Rogers said about his trip to Lincoln. "I wasn't sure how the DB's would be after the old coach left, but I actually got a chance to meet (secondary) coach (Corey) Raymond. He seemed pretty cool. He's keeping the Nebraska tradition going with the DB's. At the end of practice, I talked to coach Raymond.

"I was just walking along the field and evaluating the coaches."

Rogers currently holds one scholarship offer from Iowa State. He plans to take in another junior day at Iowa and it also sounds like he'll be at Nebraska's camp in June.

"He wanted me to come to camp so he can see how I do at DB," Rogers said about his talk with Raymond. "We didn't talk about offers or anything. I talked to the offensive line coach (Barney Cotton) and he said he's probably going to come watch me run in my track meet (during the spring)."

As of right now, Rogers won't name favorites but did add that the Huskers are certainly a program he's very interested in currently.

"It's a good program," he said. "I really like Nebraska because of the defensive side of the ball. What they've done in the past years and how they've gotten players out to the NFL."

While most schools like Rogers as a defensive back, he added some schools have just said they're recruiting him as an overall athlete. He'll get a chance to show off his athleticism at his first track meet this week.

"I've actually got my first track meet on Tuesday," Rogers said. "On Tuesday I'll probably run the open 200, the 4x100, 4x400, and 400 low hurdles."
