Muller picking up interest
Chris Muller is going to get a lot of attention in the coming months as he prepares for one of the busiest summers of his life.At 6-foot-7, 280-pounds, Boyertown (Pa.) Boyertown Area 2012 offensive tackle
"I haven't figured out my plans exactly, but I do plan on doing a couple Nike camps this summer" said Muller. "Probably Penn State and Ohio State, then probably another one down south, maybe LSU."
So far, the only BCS school to offer Muller has been Rutgers, but from the sound of things, a few other schools may be close to doing so. That's because, according to Muller, Pitt hinted about an offer the last time he visited.
"When I visited Pitt, they told me that I should expect an offer the next time I come out," said Muller.
"The teams that are making a hard push are probably Pitt, Penn State and Rutgers right now. I'm starting to get a lot of mail from a few other schools, but right now, those schools are making the hardest push."
So has Pittsburgh been in touch with Muller since their head coach Dave Wannstedt resigned?
"No," said Muller. "But I'm pretty close with all of their coaches though. I was probably going to call coach Angelichio about that tonight."
As for the Nittany Lions, Penn State recruiting coordinator Mike McQueary is in control of Muller's recruitment. The two have been in touch multiple times in the past year, including a few one-on-one conversations.
"I've gotten a few hand written letters from him and he's also been to my school a few times," said Muller.
"I was also at Penn State for the Michigan game and I spoke with him there. He just talked about how they are really interested in me and how he would be coming to visit me soon. He also said that he would like me to come to a spring practice so we can have more of a one-on-one talk."
Any chance Penn State offers Muller soon?
"I think he was hinting towards it during another visit," said Muller, referring to coach McQueary offering a verbal scholarship. "I haven't been able to come back and visit yet, so that's what I think he is leaning towards doing."
Muller's long arms are one of his best assets, but his feet may be even more impressive. According to Rivals.com recruiting analyst Mike Farrel, Muller's athleticism was "off the charts" during the New Jersey Ultimate 100 camp last June. His numbers back up Farrell's comments, running the 40 in 5.03 seconds and the shuttle in 4.79 seconds.
As for Muller's junior season, he says that it was a success.
"The season went pretty good, we finished the season 10-2 and were co-PAC-10 champs," said Muller, referring to the Pioneer Athletic Conference. "Right now, I've gotten All-Berks county, we don't know about All-PAC-10 yet."
