Another safety commitment for CU?
One of Colorado's biggest recruiting needs for next year's signing class is at safety. The Buffaloes have picked up not one, but two verbal commitments at the position in recent days.
Vince Ewing falls into the "sleeper" category but he earned an offer from Colorado based off his junior film and his performance at the Los Angeles NIKE Training Camp in April.
"The offer from Colorado kind of came out of the blue," explained Ewing, from Carlsbad (Calif.) High. "I wanted to go to the University of Colorado for a long time but they hadn't really been talking to me. I sent them my tape and then [tight ends] coach Kent Riddle came by my school and looked at me.
"Their offer come on the 14th of June, my last day of school. So I ended up committing to Colorado. I talked to Coach Riddle and he said [my commitment] made his night. Those were the best words I have ever heard.
"I feel really relieved that I don't have to worry about this and I can just get ready for my senior year and then Colorado."
Ewing has not visited Colorado yet but he plans to take his official visit the weekend of August 31st, the same weekend the Buffaloes take on in-state rival Colorado State at Invesco Field in Denver.
Prior to his commitment, Ewing was drawing recruiting looks from Colorado State, UNLV, Air Force, Princeton and Columbia. The Buffaloes were the first program to offer him a scholarship.
Ewing plays both ways for Carlsbad, but projects as a free safety for the college level.
He was named first-team all-Avocado League last season.
"Colorado said they like that I hit hard," Ewing said. "I came up on the ball and unleash hell."
