Deehan hearing from a long list of schools

In mid-February, we profiled Ryan Deehan as one of the top prospects in the San Diego area for 2008. The 6-foot-5, 223-pound tight end from Poway (Calif.) High is still waiting on his first scholarship offer. But that could change very soon.

Deehan has sent out film to a long list of programs. And a number of schools have been in contact with him via text messages.

UCLA, San Diego State, Texas A&M, Cal-Berkeley, Stanford, Michigan, Notre Dame, Washington, Colorado State, UNLV, TCU and Maryland have all shown some form of interest in Deehan.

"I'm just waiting it out," he said. "I don't have a dream school or anything. I'm looking for a college with a good football program and a college that can offer a good education.'

According to a member of Poway High's coaching staff, San Diego State is among the colleges expected to stop by during the spring evaluation period. "They saw Ryan's film and were excited about him," the coach said. "They said they will be out to see him soon."

Deehan is unsure which summer camps he will attend. But did say he plans to attend the NIKE Camp in Palo Alto on May 19th.

A first-team all-league, all-county and all-CIF selection last season, Deehan hauled in 51 passes for 840 yards and five touchdowns.

What separates Deehan from most high school tight ends? "Probably my height and my hands, basically just my catching ability," he explained. "It's also hard for people to bring me down."
