Speedy Athlete Trey Smith Enjoys CSU Visit

2014 Douglas County (CO) Athlete Trey Smith, a CSU signee who possesses excellent speed, went on a visit to Fort Collins on December 13th to stay overnight and get more familiarized with the college he will be attending next fall. GoldandGreenNews caught up with him to recap his visit.

"It was really good. I toured the campus and went to the facilities, hung out with some of the players." Smith and his parents met all of the coaches and he was hosted overnight by former Highlands Ranch (CO) WR and PR Joe Hansley, a player who is similar to Smith. Hansley and Smith both have speed and the ability to run or catch the ball and return kicks. Smith could play running back, wide receiver, or safety for CSU. Smith, a player CSU's staff started recruiting while a sophomore at Douglas County, earned a CSU offer after impressing Marty English and others at the individual skills camp in July. "They wanted me after the CSU camp and I think they liked me because of my speed."

Smith also held offers from Wyoming and New Mexico, but was sold on the Rams. "I liked all the coaching staff and the players and Fort Collins felt like home. Where they are going, I want to be a part of that, because I know they are going to do big things."

Smith is one of the fastest players in Colorado on the gridiron and the track. He boasts a 100 meter personal best time of 10.61 seconds and placed fourth at the 5A State Meet with a 10.77 last spring. He has also squatted 550 pounds. Smith ran for 1,381 yards and 18 touchdowns this fall and averaged 8.4 yards per carry for Douglas County. He had 21 receptions for 377 yards and four touchdowns.
