Baylor leads for Broxton
Call Jarell Broxton's visit to Baylor about as good it could have possibly gone without him committing to the Bears.
Still, Broxton acknowledged that Baylor is his leader. The Lackawanna C.C. (PA) three-star prospect arrived in Waco Monday evening, left Wednesday afternoon and raved about the time he had on campus.
"It went great,'' Broxton said. "It's a good coaching staff. Players are great. It's a nice campus and there's a really good environment there.''
Broxton (6-6, 325) holds offers from six BCS schools but the Bears have surged to the front with Arizona State running second and Wisconsin third. The only thing holding Broxton back from committing is taking a visit to Tempe, AZ and visiting the Sun Devils. A specific date hasn't been identified but Broxton is planning to take it in July. However, Broxton said ASU will have to do a lot to overcome what Baylor presented.
Now, Baylor doesn't have to add an extra offensive lineman if it doesn't need one. It already has four. Still, you never say no to immediate help in a player like Broxton Of its three latest targets - Broxton, Tyler Junior College's Frank Kee and LaGrange's Zach Ledwik - the Bears are down to Broxton. Ledwik committed to Texas A&M on June 15. On Wednesday, Kee committed to TCU.
Broxton would be a great fit at left guard if he wound up going to Baylor. He will have two years to play and graduates in December.
"I'm thinking a lot about Baylor,'' he said. "But I'm going to take a visit to Arizona State and then we'll see what happens.''
That means a potential commitment decision could come by the end of July, despite a scheduled visit to Wisconsin in October. The timing of that visit may not be what Broxton wants.
Of course, Baylor made an impression academically. Two weeks ago, the Big 12 the Bears shared the top spot for all Big 12 schools with an APR of 962.
"The set up for me I go there is great academically,'' Broxton said. "The support they give the players is great.''
