Spartans taking a serious look at Padla
One of the players who helped his stock significantly this past week at the Sound Mind Sound Body and Michigan State Camp was offensive tackle Nick Padla of Berrien Springs High School. Padla not only out-performed numbers lineman with much more impressive offer lists, but he was able to hold his own against several BCS level defensive lineman.
We spoke with Padla
SpartanMag.com: I know you came into teh Sound Mind Sound ody Camp with 1 scholarship offer, how many schools have offerd you now and what is your current height and weight.
Padla: I am 6-foot-6, 271-pounds. I now have scholarship offers from Toledo, Western Michigan, Bowling Green and Kent State.
SpartanMag.com: Based on what we saw on Sunday at the Michigan State Camp it seems as if the Spartans are very interested in you and are taking a serious look. Can you tell us about the feedback you have received from them?
Padla: I spoke with Coach Staten today. He said I did really good and he also said there not going to offer yet. He said they have to make sure I'm the right guy for the offer and also I think there going to wait until Jamarco Jones makes his decision.
SpartanMag.com: Going to camps has really helped your stock. What are some of the things you have been trying to work on while there and do you have plans in the coming weeks to attend some others?
Padla: My high school team runs the ball 90% of the time so I am trying to work on pass blocking. I might go to Illinois Camp on Friday. I also want to visit all the schools that have offered so far and visit Iowa too.
SpartanMag.com: If you do end up receiving a scholarship from Michigan State, where would the Spartans stand with you?
Padla: Michigan State would be at the top of my list. I like the coaches a lot and its close to home.
SpartanMag.com's Take: Padla is an excellent looking prospect. He size is legit and he has a frame to carry extra weight without losing his quickness. In our opinion he is a BCS level tackle, just not one you offer early if you are a team like Michigan State. The Spartans have to wait and see what transpires with a few players one of which is JaMarco Jones. Padla is one of those players that waiting is going to do nothing but make him a more valuable recruit. You can be sure that Coach Mark Staten is going to to be anxious to see Padla's film from his first three games.
