Hazen Linemen Gains Third Offer

Recruiting in the NW is on the rise and has been for several years. The number of athletes gaining offers to play football in college on a full scholarship has been on a steady rise for the last 7 or 8 years. Our involvement as the first group covering the area as a Region has no doubt been at least a small part in that story. Pumping over 4000 stories and articles during that time into the information super Highway Via Rivals.com, the Nations leader in High School Recruiting news, has no doubt been at least a contributing factor.

And the proof of this rising interest can be seen in guys like Hazen High School's Cody Moorhead. The rangy Senior to be just gained his 3rd offer and this one came from the Wyoming Cowboys who no doubt have been one of the most welcome newcomers to the NW recruiting scene. The Cowboys join ARMY and Eastern Washington in seeking the services of the 6'4"-265 pound linemen.

"This is a great offer for me.  The Coaches form Wyoming met me at the Northwest Elite Football Camp (Gesser Camp) and stayed in touch.  They reviewed all my film and just called to let me know they loved it and want me to come play defensive line for them," said an excited Moorhead.

How is he feeling about the prospects of being a Cowboy?

"I have a big interest in them.  Really I can see myself being a part of that program.  They are winning and really on the rise.  To get that offer and to realize they have that level of interest in me is a huge honor," he added.

ARMY moved on him first.  The Black Knights do that when they see a kid this big and mobile with a 3.75 GPA.  He reflected on that honor.

"ARMY is a game changer.  That is something I take a lot of pride in.  To be able to serve the Country and at the same time play football is something  huge.  But I need to take that one serious and make sure it is right for me.  To be less then fully committed to any of these opportunities, especially ARMY, would nit be good.  I may visit them and if I do I will go see Dartmouth and Harvard who are both in touch with me too."

What about EWU?  Is that a potential for him?

"The offered about a month ago and of course I will look at them.  My father is friends with the Coaching staff there and I need to consider them for sure as they have a great program as well."

What else has he been up to?

"After the Northwest Elite Football Camp I went to WSU and camped.  That was incredible.  I totally was impressed by the weight room and the facility.  What can I say about the coaches other then they have really got things going the right way and their defensive line coach and I hit it off really well," he said.  "I did not loose any reps up there and they said they are going to be in touch.   That would be a nice fit for me."

What about UW?

"Coach Tosh Lupoi worked with me at the Camp and that was great.  There is a one day Camp I am attending there soon and the interest seems steady and rising."

Other schools who are looking include Stanford who have seen him and love him.

"Coach Randy Hart has let me know they really like me.  But they may or may not have a spot for a Defensive linemen and that is where the other schools seem to want me as well.  But Coach Hart did say that in his mind I am a PAC 12 guy all the way.  That was a huge compliment.  So I will take that and put it on my shoulders to work twice as hard just to make sure it happens if at all possible.  That inspired me to never stop pushing," he said talking openly about the difficult schedule he maintains to keep his skill and his grades up at the same time.

Cody was the D'Line Camp MVP at the NWEFC and the word "Impressive" comes to mind.  These offers will not be his last but if they are then he is one happy guy.

"I have three great programs who want me and that is a huge compliment for the time and effort I have put in."

This is one talented and hardworking kid and he joins a growing list of Oregon and Washington Kids on their way up the ranks as we begin to move ahead into the Summer months.

We will keep you appraised on the further recruitment of one of the premier guys in the Region; Cody Moorhead.
