Lamot talks commitment

Wake Forest picked up its ninth football commitment for its 2013 recruiting class late Thursday night, June 14, in Mebane (NC) Eastern Alamance defensive end Ali Lamot, who will move to outside linebacker in college.

"A couple of small schools [Elon, Furman and Old Dominion] were interested in me and then Air Force offered me a scholarship, and then I went to the Wake Forest camp and they offered me a scholarship," Lamot said. "This Wednesday [June 13] I visited Wake Forest and went on a campus tour. I already met the coaches at the camp. I met the rest of them this week. It made an easy decision, because I really like the atmosphere there and I like the coaching staff and it's not too far away from home. It's a nice university and I think it will be a good home for me for the next four years."

Derrick Jackson is Lamot's primary recruiter for the Demon Deacons.

"He took time to meet me personally at my high school and I called him several times and spoke to him on the phone about Wake Forest," Lamot said. "When I went to the camp [Sunday, June 3] he treated me with great hospitality and then once again when I went on the campus same thing, great hospitality. He's a good coach for me, and he's going to help me get better at football once I get to college."

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Lamot added Wake's coaches are genuine people who will do anything in their power to help him succeed as a student athlete. He said Wake Forest recruits character, which is another reason why he chose the Deacs.

Lamot, who also runs track for Eastern Alamance, advanced to the NCHSAA Class 3A state championship meet, where he ran the 110-meter hurdles in 15.34 seconds to finish seventh. His personal record for the 110-meter hurdles is 15.2 seconds. He runs the 300-meter hurdles.

The newest addition to Wake Forest's recruiting class believes his athleticism, length and high motor will help make an easy transition from defensive end to outside linebacker.

Lamot added Jackson gave him some tips at Wake's camp that will help when he makes the switch.
