TCU to visit Smithson Valley bruiser
Spring Branch Smithson Valley running back Lawrence Mattison has been working all offseason on improving his game.
Going into last season he was listed at 6-foot-1 and 240 pounds, but he has been working extremely hard to cut some of the weight and get faster.
"I'm down to about 230 now and I'm looking good and I feel like I'm a lot faster," Morrison said. "I'm trying to become a more all-purpose back by running hills, running with a weight vest on and just running lots of miles a day."
He had his first spring practice of the year earlier this week and he is ready to take his game to the next level for his senior year.
"I love the power running game, but I really think I have a high enough football IQ to become more than that," Morrison said.
"My reaction time and vision are a lot better. Anybody can work on skills, but you have to be smart to be a top running back."
Last season, Morrison ran the ball 299 times for 1,943 yards and 27 touchdowns as the 4A Rangers made it to the second round of the playoffs before losing to the eventual state champions, Austin Lake Travis.
