Smith enjoys TCU visit

Fort Worth All Saints deep snapper Kaleb Smith visited TCU Sunday and came away impressed.

"(TCU) definitely moved up on my list. I'd really like to go there if I had the opportunity. I spent the entire day with Coach Sharp and he impressed me. Just the facility and the way the run things."

Smith has yet to receive an offer, but has spoken to coaches at Arkansas, Oklahoma State and Texas. Auburn invited Smith to its special teams camp this summer and he attended junior day at North Texas last week.

The 6-foot-3, 230 pound junior is still weighing his options and knows that an offer could be hard to come by at deep snapper.

"I'm still trying to decide what I want to major in," Smith said. "I'm hoping for an offer, that's what I really want. But being a recruited walk-on wouldn't be a bad thing."

Rivals does not rank deep snappers, but kohlskicking.com ranks Smith as the ninth best at the position in the country and tops in Texas.

He's won big-time snapping competitions and graded at 100 percent in 2010 and 2011 on long and short snaps.

Playing defensive end at All Saints, Smith said he started snapping by chance.

"Freshman year during the spring we needed (a deep snapper) and I thought I'd try it. I turned out to be good at it."

He added that it would be fun to play with All Saints tight end Charlie Reid, who attended a TCU junior day earlier this spring, but that where Reid goes will not affect his decision.
