New York DE is officially a Black Knight

Alex Cauley, who was offered by the Black Knights coaching staff on January 30th has played both defensive end and tackle, but it appears that Cauley will launch his collegiate career on the outside.

"I'm not 100% sure where Army see me playing, but I prefer defensive end," says Cauley, who indicated that his favorite player is former Buffalo Bills defensive great, Bruce Smith. Clearly that explains why he wears the #78 jersey.

Ironically, Cauley finished the 2011 season with 78, to go along with 6 sacks.

The prep bound defender never took an official visit to Army. However, after Cauley and his teammates played a game on Long Island, New York, the 6-foot-6, 240 pounder made his way to the West Point campus to tour what will now be his college home for the next 4-5 years.

"Coach Bill Tripp kind of showed us around a little bit," states Cauley, who indicated that the visit was his first time on the grounds of the historic campus.

"It's (West Point) the best option that anyone could have. They have great academics, amazing football ..... it was an easy choice for me."

Although Cauley and his teammates at Buffalo (NY) St. Francis High School lost 21-2-0 in overtime to nationally ranked St. Ignatius of Cleveland (Ohio), they finished 8-3.

"We aren't allowed to play in the state championships because are a separated division of Monsignor Martin, but we ended up winning our Monsignor Martin Championship," offers up Cauley, who is aware that something is continuing to brew with the Army football program and that the 2012 recruiting class is a major part of the process.

"I have been following the recruiting of the 2012 class and it's a solid class."

In addition to football, the future Black Knight usually is swimming in the winter.
