Lewis ready to play WR at Syracuse
Middletown (MD) receiver Ben Lewis committed at the beginning of July and he started the Orange off on a summer hot streak when it came to commitments. Now it is time to officially end the recruiting process and get ready for college.
Even though Rivals.com lists Lewis as an athlete the Syracuse Orange want him to be a wide receiver. As it stands right now though he does not know where he will be used.
"They are not really sure and they like me all over, so it would depend on what packages they run. I would say probably in the slot and outside is where they will use me."
Lewis has solid size at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds and that size can have a player get away with some items on the field that others may not. The Maryland product knows that in college he has to work harder and keep improving.
"Strength, I think is my determination to win, my ability to be physical up at the line and right now that is about it. I definitely need to work on my speed, footwork, my change of direction, and improving my route running.
"It is going to be different and it will take some time, but I am ready for the challenge and hopefully I can get in there and play."
While Syracuse was recruiting him he did not know much about Syracuse, but that has now changed and one thing he learned sticks out.
"Definitely the tradition. The tradition that you go into and you have to live up to that and that is what we are trying to do."
Before the recruiting process the Orange were in the wrong conference and Lewis did not pay much attention.
"I never really followed Syracuse. When I grew up I followed ACC schools like Maryland and those guys. Now that I have researched them I love the history, the tradition, and I did not know that so many people went there. I really like it now."
It was only a couple months after he committed that he learned that Syracuse was going to be in the ACC and he was thrilled with the move.
"I love it because those are the team I grew up watching Florida State, Miami, and Maryland all of those guys. That was a definite plus when I heard they were moving to the ACC, I about that am excited."
This past season was a great one for Lewis where he grabbed over 50 catches, had over 900 receiving yards, and 15 touchdowns.
