Deloach relishes chance

Once in a lifetime opportunities, well, they only happen once in a lifetime.

Jenkins County defensive end James Deloach has learned all about such opportunities in the past year.

First, he received and accepted a scholarship offer from his home state school, Georgia, and then he was selected to play in the inaugural Semper Fidelis All American Bowl in Phoenix, Ariz.

Having a chance to practice and compete against the best players in the country was an honor, but nowhere near the honor it was to spend time around some of the bravest and hardest working men and women in the United States.

"It was honestly the best experience of my life," said Deloach. "Just being there and seeing the commitment of the Marines was so cool. Their discipline and courage and all were just unreal."

The experience didn't stop there, as the Southeast Ga. star was able be a part of some other extraordinary activities.

"We got to go to an NFL game, and we were at the Insight Bowl and got to hold the flag," said Deloach. "It was great."

Deloach's play on the field earned him the opportunity to play in the Semper Fidelis game, and both the practices and the games were a great challenge.

"It was like my first college game," he said. "All of these guys are going to big time schools, so playing with and against these guys was like being in college for the first time. I liked the challenge."

Deloach has been committed to the Bulldogs since the spring, and he took his opportunity at the Semper Fidelis Bowl to do some recruiting for his future team.

"I hung out with Kenderius (Whitehead) and (Todd) Gurley there," he said. "They are some straight up good guys, too. I talked to them about Georgia because I know they are considering us. I know they both like Georgia a lot."

Deloach played defensive end for the West team in the game, but he wants all of Bulldog Nation to know that he will do anything to play between the hedges.

"I just want to play," he said. "I'll line up anywhere and play. I just want to do my part."
